Project : India Property Expo (Singapore Launch)

Designing a Virtual Platform for NRI Real Estate Discovery

Role
Senior Manager UX

Timeline
Feb 2023 - June 2023

Designed an immersive digital experience enabling NRIs to explore, compare, and connect with Indian real estate developers remotely - bringing the physical expo experience online.

The platform simplified property discovery across multiple cities, offering structured navigation and meaningful comparisons. It improved accessibility for international users while driving engagement and informed decision-making.

Problem

How might we simplify the process of discovering and investing in Indian real estate for Indians living in Singapore, making it more accessible, user-friendly, and tailored to individual preferences?

Outcome

Website registration exceeded expectations, drawing strong response from Singapore's Indian community. Virtual expo's triumph marked a milestone in connecting and empowering Indians abroad with Indian real estate opportunities.

Setting Expectation

What this project is and what to expect

This project aims to link Indians in Singapore with real estate opportunities in India through a user-friendly virtual platform. The case study explores problem-solving, user-centric design, and accessible solutions, highlighting how the project turns dreams into reality by offering an avenue to engage with Indian real estate prospects.

1
Context

Connecting NRIs in Singapore with Indian real estate opportunities through a fully digital expo experience.

02
My Role

Led end-to-end UX design—from research and information architecture to wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes.

03
Objective

Simplify property discovery and comparison while enabling confident remote investment decisions.

Uncovering Issues

User Research — Insights & Findings

I conducted detailed user research to understand how Indians in Singapore explore real estate opportunities in India. Based on this, I created five personas that helped guide early design decisions.

These insights ensured that the platform was aligned with real user needs and expectations.

Understanding User Needs

From the research, three key user segments stood out — investment-focused buyers, family-oriented home seekers, and senior-friendly users. These helped in shaping a more structured and personalized property discovery experience.

Ideation

Paper wireframes —

Sketches, Ideas & Flows

Initial ideas were explored through quick sketches and paper wireframes to map out different user flows and possible directions. This approach made it easier to iterate rapidly and refine concepts without getting into visual details too early.

These early explorations helped define the overall structure, navigation, and interaction patterns before moving into digital designs.

Paper wireframes —

Sketches, Ideas & Flows

Starting with initial sketches, I progressed to crafting Lo-Fi wireframes that outline interactions and user flows for testing. The following displays slides depicting the PC version of the application.

Testing & Iterations

Ussability Testing, Findings & Iterations

Once the low-fidelity prototypes were prepared, I conducted a concise usability test involving five participants. The focus was on assessing the clarity, usability, and understanding of the diverse features I had designed. This test allowed me to identify areas for enhancement and ensure a user-friendly experience.

Before

Testers expressed interest in purchasing properties in specific cities. However, the exhibition halls were organized to feature developers from various cities, making it challenging to exclusively explore those with projects in their desired locations.

After

To tackle this issue, I incorporated a city dropdown menu within the lobby. This empowers users to select their preferred city for property purchase, directing them to an exhibition hall showcasing a curated list of developers from that specific location.

Before

During testing, users encountered challenges accessing their preferred developers' kiosks in their desired cities due to the high density of developers allocated within a confined area.

After

To tackle this, I revamped the exhibition hall design, dedicating each hall to only 8 developers from the same city. This ensures that users can effortlessly navigate to their desired developer's kiosk within their preferred city.

Creating Consistency

Ensuring consistency, efficiency, and faster product development

Designed a comprehensive design system to bring consistency across the platform and streamline the design-to-development process.

Beyond visual alignment, this system established reusable components, clear interaction patterns, and scalable guidelines—reducing design inconsistencies and enabling faster, more efficient screen creation.

Impact: Improved design consistency and reduced iteration time across screens.

Final Virtual Expo Experience Design

Translating physical expo interactions into an intuitive digital journey

I designed an immersive virtual expo experience that reimagines how users explore real estate remotely. The platform enables users to navigate exhibition booths, discover projects, and interact with developers in a structured and intuitive way.

By simplifying navigation and organizing complex information into clear, guided flows, the experience bridges the gap between physical and digital expos—making property exploration more engaging, accessible, and efficient.

Final Product & Experience Delivered

From research to execution - an end-to-end UX transformation

Led the end-to-end UX design for this virtual expo platform—from research and problem definition to prototyping and final experience delivery. The solution transformed a traditionally physical event into an intuitive digital platform for property discovery and engagement.

By structuring complex information into guided, user-friendly flows, the platform enabled users to explore, compare, and connect with developers seamlessly—making remote property discovery both accessible and engaging.

Lessons Learned

Key Learnings & Design Impact

This project reinforced the importance of grounding design decisions in user research and real-world context. Defining clear personas and continuously validating assumptions helped shape a more intuitive and effective user experience.

It also strengthened my approach to building scalable design systems and collaborating across teams—ensuring consistency, efficiency, and alignment between design and development.
