Voting is a fundamental democratic right for every citizen. However, in a country as large and diverse as India, many eligible voters are unable to participate in elections due to work commitments, military or emergency service, health conditions, age, travel, or living outside their home constituency—or even abroad.

This project explores a secure digital voting platform that enables citizens to cast their vote using a mobile device or computer from anywhere in the world, without visiting a polling booth. Access would be available only during authorized election dates and time windows, while maintaining the security, integrity, and trust essential to the democratic process.

Problem

Many eligible citizens miss the opportunity to vote because they are serving in emergency services, living abroad, traveling, or facing health and mobility challenges.

The Goal

Empower eligible citizens to vote securely from anywhere through an intuitive and accessible digital experience.

User Research Summary

To understand the challenges faced by different voter groups, I conducted user interviews and created empathy maps. The research included healthcare professionals working in emergency services, senior citizens with mobility limitations, and working professionals frequently traveling or residing outside their home constituency or abroad.

The research validated a common pain point: many eligible citizens are unable to exercise their democratic right because physical presence at polling stations is often not feasible. These insights shaped the vision for Amritchunav—a secure, accessible digital voting experience designed to make participation possible without compromising trust or usability.

User Personas

The goal is to create a very  secured app that can be used by the residents Indian to cast their votes using their mobiles or computers from anywhere in the country or even from outside of the country.

Problem Statement #1

Being a neurosurgeon, Dr. Anil has lots of emergency patients to treat and few major operations too which makes him occupied most of the day and cannot get time separately to go and vote standing in the queue.

Problem Statement #2

Rishi frequently travels across India and abroad for work, causing him to miss election days and lose the opportunity to cast his vote from his registered constituency.

Low-Fidelity Prototype

To prepare for usability testing, I created a low-fidelity prototype that connected the user flow of casting vote from anywhere whenever feasible avoiding standing in queue.

High-Fidelity Prototype

The high-fidelity prototype followed the same user flow as the low-fidelity prototype, including design changes made after the usability study.
